Two friends were shopping. One was trying on some clothes and looking in a mirror and kept commenting on how they looked. “I look frumpy. These clothes make me look squatty and fat. I have no shoulders to make this shirt look good.” The friend sat by silently. Finally the one trying on the clothes got fed up with the silence and said, “Well, say something. What do you think?” The friend, not wanting to agree with the assessment merely said, “Well, you have perfect vision.”
The friend knew that nothing that would be said would be helpful. A lie would not help and agreeing with the assessment certainly would not help, so a tongue was bit and silence was held. Probably the best thing.
Sometimes, our gift of communication is better suited to be held in check.
