Give Me Your Eyes Devotion

The LORD opens the eyes of the blind;
Psalm 146:8

I am not an auditory learner; I do much better to see words or, better yet, do something hands on (kinesthetic). I do enjoy music though. If I can see the lyrics or something is set to music, I pick it up much faster. I think it is because I can engage by singing along (although, if you have sat near me singing in church, you know it is probably better that I sing inside of my head). On Sunday, our closing song was “Give Me Your Eyes” by Brandon Heath-I have put some of the lyrics below. I’ve heard these words before but didn’t give them much attention until seeing them on the screen and singing them. Seeing them on “paper”, do they speak to you? When you look at your world today, try to see it through God’s eyes even if it’s just for one second. What have you been missing in other people and other of God’s creation?

Give me Your eyes for just one second

Give me Your eyes so I can see,

Everything that I keep missing,

Give me Your love for humanity.

I’ve been there a million times

A couple million lives

Just moving past me by, I swear I never thought that I was wrong

But I wanna second glance so give me a second chance

To see the way You’ve seen the people all along.

My prayer:

Dear Lord, please open my eyes even if for a moment so I can see what I miss in the world and all it has to offer. Please help me to not miss opportunities to offer myself to others because my eyes are closed. Thank you for the splendor of Your Majesty and the opportunity to see it if I will just open my eyes.
